Job Description
Program Director, Linguistics
The National Science Foundation is seeking qualified candidates for Program Director for Linguistics within the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) in the Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE), Alexandria, VA.

BCS is responsible for the support of fundamental research in all behavioral and cognitive science fields. The Division is composed of standing programs in Anthropological, Geographical, Psychological, and Language Sciences.

The Linguistics Program supports basic science in the domain of human language, encompassing investigations of the grammatical properties of individual human languages and of natural language in general. The Linguistics program also supports projects to develop language infrastructure and advance scientific and scholarly knowledge concerning human languages. The program encourages projects that are interdisciplinary in theoretical perspective and/or methodological approach, and that address questions that cross disciplinary boundaries. Linguistics program officers also manage the Dynamic Language Infrastructure-Documenting Endangered Languages (DLI-DEL) program as part of their assigned tasks.
Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology or related fields, plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
Experience and expertise in basic research areas relevant to the goals of BCS and other programs such as Cultural Anthropology, Developmental Sciences, or Perception, Action & Cognition would be beneficial, as would familiarity with emerging computational methods and best practices in data management and archiving of language data.
