Central State University raises $320,000 on Giving Tuesday

Central State University raises $320,000 on Giving Tuesday
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on December 01, 2022

In early November, the 2022 Giving Tuesday campaign launched on social media with a video featuring Dr. Jack Thomas, the ninth president of Central State University, Ohio's only public Historically Black College or University and 1890 Land-Grant institution. He said, “Central State University is proud to be a part of Giving Tuesday.” Thomas asked supporters for help to reach the goal of $250,000. But instead, the University’s event garnered $320,000. “We strive to educate and empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers,” Thomas added.

Nationally known actor James Moses Black, who graduated from CSU in 1988, hosted the hybrid Giving Tuesday celebration on November 29, 6 - 8 p.m. in the Central State University Student Center. Black kicked off the program with a donation of $5000.

According to www.IMDb.com the Internet Movie Database, James Moses Black is one of the best character actors of his generation. He is also, undoubtedly, one of the most well-known, well-liked, and humble performers in TV, film, and voiceover. With close to 100 credits, James' perseverance and work ethic has continued to elevate his roles in work. As Black continues to thrive as an actor / performer, he is reaching his other goal as a writer and producer with such projects as, "55", the story of the first integrated hotel and casino in Las Vegas.

Black said, “Central State University gave me more than an education; it provided me with a way of life.”

Black was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, and is known for his television roles in The District, The Practice, Medical Investigation, JAG, The Closer, The Unit, **** Betty, Boston Legal, Entourage, Dexter, Southland, Sons of Anarchy, NCIS: New Orleans, Zoo, Nashville, and many others.

Entertainment by DJ 4 Seasons and the Marauder Cheerleaders performed in person and live on YouTube and Facebook.

Csubelievers.com said, “audience members may engage with the Central State University community online or in person at the University Center Ballroom.” Alums, University leaders, and current students were on hand to share their stories and talk about what CSU means to them.

Throughout the month of November, Giving Tuesday events provided an opportunity to take pride in supporting all the students on the campus of Central State University by contributing through the website and on social media platforms. The donation directly and instantaneously impacts current, and future, students at Central State University.
