Delaware State University Concert Choir To Present "A Soulful Holiday" Dec 4
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on November 22, 2022

The Delaware State University Concert Choir will celebrate the Christmas season with the performance of “A Soulful Holiday” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 in the Education and Humanities Theatre.

The concert is free and open to the public.

“A Soulful Holiday” will feature the University Concert Choir members in large and smaller ensembles and groups performing traditional holiday songs and standards, including selected adaptation of Handel’s “Messiah.”

The event also will include the premiere performance of “The Mistletoe Jam,” which has been recorded by the Concert Choir and will soon be featured in a musical video; two dance performances, and a telling of the story of Kwanzaa.

An orchestra – which will include a mix of regional professional and student musicians – will accompany the singers.

The concert will also feature guest instrumentalists:
* Monica Hargrave, retired principal harpist of the Greenville (S.C.) Symphony Orchestra.
* George “Spike” Nealy II, former percussionist for R&B legend James Brown
* Joel Johnson, guitarist and preeminent music scholar
* Otis Davis, former guitarist with the late jazz musician Donald Byrd.
