In the role of Simulation Specialist working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our Simulation Specialist supports simulation related training and performance assessment events in multiple locations (e.g., CW Simulation Lab classrooms, in-situ). Programs scenarios and operates high-to-low fidelity simulators, task trainers, and anatomical models to clinical specifications. Provides training, supports outreach and QI activities and performs simulation related administrative operations (e.g., collaborate with Simulation staff re: simulator inventory and event schedules)
Responsible for day-to-day operations associated with preparation, operation and maintenance of the simulators, task trainers and anatomical models (hereafter referred to as simulators) used for competency based training and low-high stakes performance assessment events.
Work with and troubleshoot technology requests for computers, manikins and other simulation technology/devices. Work with clinical content experts (e.g., physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, educators) to design training scenarios to meet specifications.
Program simulators to meet these requirements. Apply clinical and technical knowledge to effectively operate high-fidelity simulators during training events in coordination with facilitator(s).
Set up/take down the simulation rooms, simulators and equipment needed for training events (e.g., anesthesia machine, ventilator, defibrillator) to maximize fidelity/realism in both the Corporate Center and main hospital locations.
Set up/take down and operate simulators for in-situ simulation events that occur near/in patient-care areas. This includes transporting full sized manikins and other technology from the CW Diary Cares Simulation lab to the clinical setting and ensuring all simulation equipment is removed from the patient care area at the conclusion of the event.
Create a maintenance schedule and perform regular upkeep of equipment.
Troubleshoot equipment and technology and collaborate with CW Information Services and approved simulation vendors to ensure simulation programming
Collaborate with DOP Simulation EPC to maintain internal simulation event calendar.
Track usage for billing purposes.
Organize and maintain simulation supply inventory in collaboration with DOP Simulation EPC.
Work with DOP Simulation EPC and DOP Medical Education leadership to order needed equipment and supplies.
Be point of contact with equipment manufacturer technicians to troubleshoot equipment/systems problems.
Maintain simulator related records (e.g., repairs, purchases).
Identify/evaluate/recommend equipment replacement and/or new additional equipment as needed to Program Manager.
Train event faculty (e.g., physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, educators) in operational aspects of simulation to achieve education outcomes.
Orient trainees to simulator features and use to prepare them for training scenarios.
Serve as educational resource for faculty and students planning simulation-based medical education courses and classes.
Provide tours and information about the Dairy Cares Simulation Lab at Children’s Wisconsin to various constituencies (e.g. MCW/CW and other health profession educators, public affairs/development, philanthropic supporters).
Support/collaborate with event directors on QI efforts and educational scholarship (e.g., studies, abstracts).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management preferred.
Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
Knowledge of technology, software, mechanical interfaces preferred.
Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Required Experience: 5 years
